#3 MAYORS HAVE NOT INVITED TO PARTICIPATE IN MOUNTAIN ACCORD / AFCVISION

ACTION ITEM

What Utah County cities are represented in the Mountain Accord process which now includes LATE IN THE GAME land swaps in American Fork Canyon as bargaining fodder for negotiations with SNOWBIRD.

The correct answer? None
We request that Mountain Accord allow Utah County representation on their steering committee as long as Utah County lands are being negotiated.

What cities are not part of the American Fork Canyon Vision steering committee?

According to the AFCVision website these cities in Utah County appear to have been excluded from the Mountain Accord process. Why?

Only Cedar Hills and American Fork are on the steering committee.. we find that to be very odd.

  • Where is Alpine City?
  • Where is Draper?
  • Where is Goshen?
  • Where is Elk Ridge?
  • Where is Genola?
  • Where is Fairfield?
  • Where is Vivian Park?
  • Where is Highland?
  • Where is Lindon?
  • Where is Pleasant Grove?
  • Where is Provo?
  • Where is Orem?
  • Where is Saratoga Springs?
  • Where is Vineyard?
  • Where is Cedar Fort?
  • Where is Fairfield?
  • Where is Salem?
  • Where is Payson?
  • Where is Mapleton?
  • Where is Eagle Mountain?
  • Where is Springville?
  • Where is Lehi?
  • Where is Spanish Fork?
  • Silver Lake Home Owners Association?
  • Tibble Fork Home Owners Association?

[Editor note] Its good to see Sundance and Save Our Canyons invited to participate in the AFCVision steering committee, even if its a late in the game invite.

**We would also like to see inclusion of all Utah County Mayors to be on the steering committee for AFCVision as well as Mountain Accord. We also believe we at Protect and Preserve American Fork – can be of help to post media of meetings and help maintain transparency… we hope to be invited to participate in this process.

WE ALSO REQUEST THAT ALL UTAH COUNTY CITIES – THEIR MAYORS BE INCLUDED ON THE AFCVISION STEERING COMMITTEE.

WE BELIEVE STRONGLY THAT BOTH PROCESSES SHOULD RUN CONCURRENT. THE MOUNTAIN ACCORD COMMENT PERIOD ENDED MAY 1ST, 2015, BEFORE UTAH COUNTY RESIDENTS AND CIVIC LEADERS EVEN KNEW LAND IN MINERAL BASIN WAS PART OF THE SNOWBIRD LAND SWAP.

Mountain Accord- It is comprised of participants from:
Salt Lake County
Summit County
Wasatch County
Salt Lake City
Park City
Sandy City
Cottonwood Heights
Town of Alta
Metropolitan Water District of Salt Lake & Sandy
Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) (funding from State of Utah appropriation)
Utah Transit Authority (UTA)
U.S. Forest Service (USFS)
Federal Transit Administration (FTA)
Federal Highway Administration (FHWA)
Utah State Legislature
State of Utah, Governor’s Office
Wasatch Front Regional Council
Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce
Save Our Canyons
Outdoor Industry Association

** Why are so few mayors involved when Mayor Gygi told the State Legislature in his $500k ask that “So as that population grows we know a lot of those people are going to want to recreate and many of them are going to want to recreate up American Fork Canyon. Which we think is terrific and we welcome that and we think that’s exciting and so there’s been broad support for the study that we’re talking about in terms of the County Commissioners and the mayors of all the major cities that I’ve spoken with down there.”

Please help identify who Mayor Gygi refers to..  As we have contacted Mayor John Curtis of Provo, Mayor Don Watkins-Alpine, Mayor Jeff Acerson-Lindon, they were not aware of the issues of Mountain Accord.

Who is the “we” Mayor Gygi is referring to?
