Karen McCoyI was born and raised in American Fork. Growing up we spent our vacations in the canyon. We would go to Elderberry Flat and pick elderberris in the fall to make jam. My sister Pat would take me hiking all of the time. We hiked most of the trails in American Fork Canyon but spent most of our time in the North Fork area. In the winter we would cross-country ski to Silver Lake, Granite Flat, Holman Flat and over the Alpine Loop.

I worked at Timpanogos Cave National Monument for several years doing cave tours, visitor center operations, maintenance and wild land fire fighting. I had also worked in Bryce and Zion National Parks doing trail maintenance.

My husband Mike and I both enjoy the outdoors. We own and operate Gears Transmission in Lehi. We have two boys and we love to hike, camp, fish and stay at the cabin unless we are at a baseball game or car show. We love to spend time with our dogs and are big supporters of Best Friends and NKUT.

Having children, working at the cave and also being involved with scouts in the past, I have always enjoyed sharing my knowledge of the outdoors and would like to see the next generations have the same opportunities that I have had.

We love American Fork Canyon and want to see the canyon maintain her pristine and rugged character.
